Match report   Superb win for FFC and for football! Strong performances around the park today, for 70 minutes with 10 men, against an uncompromising, physical and not very subtle Rufforth side.

Preparations for the game were again disrupted by a midweek withdrawal and the late change caused by work problems for Browsey; Andy Holmes carrying an injury also caused us some concerns and squad selection was as difficult as usual. However, one thing that can't be said enough about this squad of players is that everyone who we have asked to join the squad has given 100% to the cause, and that team spirit was there by the bucketful today.

So to the game; a bright start from FFC built confidence and the early goal was no more than deserved; Sam made room for himself between the centre halves and coolly placed his shot over the keeper for a perfect start. And there was more to come as Finn managed to get the ball out of his feet, leave the centre halves for dead and finish sweetly to take a 2-0 lead.

Then the game changed; robust tackles came thick and fast from an intimidating Rufforth side but the FFC boys didnt take a backward step. And then Sam got booked for a perceived slightly off the ground challenge after the ref had blown to give 'Ford a deserved free kick. And what only seemed like moments later after a flurry of tackles Sam got his marching orders for a second yellow which seemed harsh for a strong fair-looking challenge. The Rufforth player seemed badly injured, though and their crowd bayed for the ref to reach for the second yellow which they hoped would change the game, and he did, much to the amazement of the FFC team and touchline. Fortunately the Rufforth player recovered quickly from the tackle and was able to carry on..

And the game did change immediately after the red card; a strong run from Finn into the left corner position, a forceful cross whilst under severe pressure and a strong finish from Jack B bursting into the box made it 3-0 to ten man 'Ford.

More strong challenges and Herculean effort from the Fulford ten saw us to half time in a superb position.

The home team came out fired up in the second half and played football for ten minutes without troubling the resolute FFC defence. But then a break and a decent strike brought Rufforth into the game at 3-1, or did it...

The 'Ford boys responded with some decent footy and a burst into the box led to the inevitable poor challenge on the rampaging Jack B. Penalty to FFC and up steps the recently arrived Browsey to hammer the ball past the keeper for 4-1 and an unassailable lead.

With Dan replacing the injured Andy H and Ash providing fresh impetus on the left it was only a matter of time before some neat interplay between the two to create an opening for Dan to rifle home from close range. It has to be said that by this time Rufforth were down to ten men after several yellow cards had been brandished by the referee, and he had time for another second yellow to reduce the home team to 9.

So the right result for 'Ford and for the footballing side. Tremendous effort from all involved; we had a few older heads in the side today but still had 5 U19s in the squad with Jack B taking the man of the match award despite strong performances from everyone in the squad.

Superb, and 8 points clear.
