| Match report | What can i say this was a very sweet win today as i dont recall ever beating Brooklyn before,i may be wrong ? we always play well against them but they always managed to turn us over. Not today though we started off dire, we gave them the ball from the centre and they peiced together an attack and scroed a very early goal 1 nil to them. This froze us and it took a little while for us to find our feet and confidence and for the first 10 to 15 mins we didnt seem to be on the pitch there was no partnership between midfield and defence. and we looked like we were gonna get rolled over by them. A couple of confident balls by us and we started to get into it a bit, the wind was going our way and that helped, Ben lofted in a huge kick James Goncalves picked it up and was bearing down on goal with Chris chasing alongside him it was our first attack and after that we got into it a little bit more. Cameron Thompson started as sub but we quickly realised we needed him in the game and he came on after 15 mins at left back and made a big difference, he puts his foot through the ball and at that time that was precisely what we needed to do when they attacked. Ben had another good game and made plenty of saves they didnt test him like the team last week but never the less he was alert and confident in his box. The defence played well today and we used a number of players in there, Scott, Guy, Ross, Will, Cameron, and even Chris for a time in the last 10 mins. they all battled hard and had plenty to do. They had a speedy number nine we put Will on him and he managed him well by sticking to him and he didnt get much more in the game. coming up to half time we were starting to take the game to them, been a neurotic coach i was thinking this is great but are we gonna score then David Thompson took hold of the ball he looked up saw the keeper of his line and sent a fantastic shot and scored a brilliant goal he deserved it as him, chris, Aaron and james had been pushing for it for about 20 mins, Oli C and Seth had been sending in some great crosses, the lads used the wings a lot more today and was really nice to see that they do pay attention to what we go through with them in training. But davids Goal really put the wind in our sails and took it out of theirs. Right on half time pefect timing, it was hard to know what to say to the lads at half time just be confident was the main message. Oli B came on for oli C on the left, he took sub today as he was carrying a niggling injury but you wouldnt have noticed it he really battled hard and was unlucky not to get a goal himself. Second half and we looked really good and very quickly David had struck again with another confident and well taken goal two one to us. Brooklyn kept coming at us but Ben was up to them and they couldnt beat him although there were some moments where i couldnt believe our luck but it was our day today and we didnt concede, we cleared it Ben saved it Guy Cowley pulled off a tackle in the area that can only be described as match winning there speedy forward had got away and was on goal guy came across him and got the ball not him and got it clear. Aaron captained well and nearly got one, it was tit for tat they attacked we attacked they hit the post we hit the post, both teams could have had a few goals today. Scott came on up front for a bit and placed the ball really well the wind just caught it and it went wide James had a similar opeertunity that goal is coming James, the lads were nearly causing cardiac arrests on the touch line. It was great win and will have done our confidence some good last season we would have lost this game, Brooklyn will be well peeved they didnt win this, as i know i would be if i had have been in their shoes, so we need to be ready fir them again as they will want revenge on us, but i am confident. The ref came and spoke to the lads after the game he is a character that ref and he was full of praise for the lads as they didnt give him one bit of lip. He chose Cameron T as man of the match and i after agree today he made a differecne to us when we were under the cosh, but again there were great games played by everyone today its hard to mention them all in the report Well done lads it always feels good to win but even better when we beat a team we have not beat before |
