Match report | It was a beautiful Autumnal day, the sun was shining and the stage was set for a thrilling match between the Fulford Foxes and Pickering Town, both played 3, won 3. Something had to give. The whistle went and Pickering Town were quickly off the blocks, controlling the game for the 1st 10 minutes, and putting the Foxes defence under mounting pressure. A couple of fine saves from Sofia and then oh no, the little Pickering pocket battleship found herself one on one on Sofia. Sofia rushed from the goaline to close her down, putting Hannah Montana off her stride and forcing her to blast wide. This was the wakeup call the Foxes needed, we were at last beginning to put some passes together and Dani and Laura were beginning to put more pressure on further up the pitch. Abby and Amy were also beginning to influence the game more and were able to find Emily more with their passes. Emily in turn was getting her sights in on goal getting in a couple of good strikes. The game continued with the Foxes dominating possession and with 1 minute to go before halftime, Emily picked the ball up 30 yards out on the right and unleashed an absolute beauty which swerved viciously in its flight. The goalie could only stand and watch in amazement as the ball flew past her into the back of the net. 1-0 to the Foxes. The ref blow up for half time. The second half was very different. The Foxes were coming under increasing pressure, finding it difficult to get out of their own half. Pickering Town kept streaming forward but the Foxes stood firm, defending heroically with a magnificent backs to the wall defensive display. Lots of fantastic last ditch tackles notable from Dani, Beth, Sophie Grantham and Sophie Mole. The parents were beginning to get very nervous, praying for the final whistle, alas it didn’t come soon enough. Hannah Montana found herself in space once more one on one with Sofia. Sofia advanced once more to close down the space, but this time to no avail. Hannah coolly slotted the ball home. It was 1-1. The Foxes weren’t done with yet though. They mustered the strength and fortitude to fight back and put Pickering under pressure. Amy with a great run down the right and bearing down on the goalie who was quaking in her boots, but just as she was about to pull the trigger she was thwarted by a fine tackle. Josie came on late for the tiring Abby who had a fine game in the centre of midfield and helped see the game out to a very creditable 1-1 draw. Great game, excellent entertainment and well done girls you remain undefeated! Girl of the Game: Sofia – Magnificent display between the sticks! |
