Match report | So it was off to the seaside to play Scarborough on a very small narrow pitch, small even for 7-a-side! On with the game and the Foxes were quickly into their stride creating a number of good chances, firstly with Emily bursting through the middle only to be thwarted by a last ditch saving tackle, then Amy came close after turning smartly in the box to shoot narrowly wide and also through Sophie M after some good work with Amy down the right. The pressure finally told with Amy latching onto an Abby throw in which the defence couldn’t deal with to put the Foxes a goal up. After that, the Foxes visibly eased up and Scarborough started to pile on the pressure themselves, eventually scoring from a corner to go into the break 1 each. On with the 2nd half and Scarborough scored early on and to compound matters for the Foxes, Amy had to be carried off after taking a heavy knock on the knee. For the next 10 minutes the Foxes had to withstand some sustained pressure after shuffling the formation, with Sofai having to pull off a number of smart saves to keep the Foxes in it. Thankfully though Amy was fit enough to come back on and within minutes the Foxes were level after Sophie M played Emily down the right who squared nicely for Amy to even up affairs. The Foxes were then beginning to turn the screw, however were caught flat footed at the back after a swift Scarborough counterattack and went 3-2 behind with minutes to go. Scarborough quickly made a substitution, with the manager congratulating the goalscorer on winning the game for them. Minutes later though the Foxes made him eat those words after Josie found Amy with an exquisite through ball for Amy to do the rest and put us level. In the dying embers of the game the Foxes nearly pinched it after the goalie fumbled and Amy rounded her but was just unable to squeeze the ball home from a tight angle. Great game and probably the best we’ve played all season especially giving the tough playing conditions. Girl of the game: Josie – Defended really well and set up Amy with a fine through pass for the equaliser. Well done to Amy too for scoring her 1st of many hatricks this season! |
