| Match report | The Wigginton side for this second game was stronger than for the first; in particular they had a number of players who were comfortable on the ball and difficult to dispossess. The Tigers were put under quite a lot of pressure in the first half, but the whole team put in good defensive work and managed to limit Wigginton to a single goal. We didn’t panic, and tried to pass the ball out of defence and start our own attacks when we could – and were rewarded when a quick counter-attack was finished off by Henry. In the early part of the second half it was Wigginton’s strong-running players who broke through and scored with a couple of very good shots. There was a period when the Tigers were well and truly pegged back close to their own goal, but they resisted strongly and worked their way back into the game. By the end it was Wigginton who were doing all the defending, as Thomas got one goal and another was ruled out when the referee pulled the play back for a hand-ball by the Wigginton keeper. All in all it was a mixed performance from the Tigers today. In attack we failed to score when we were totally in command – but came back strongly and scored in both games after falling behind; and in defence we kept our composure when put under sustained pressure – but weren’t strong enough to deal with Wigginton’s players running from mid-field. The most encouraging aspect was the way in which we tried to keep possession of the ball and work it through from defence to attack – I hope to see more of this each time we play. Two players deserve a special mention: Emma’s goal-keeping kept us in the second game to the end. And Ben’s increasingly confident play was capped off by a goal - he’s the Tigers’ Player of the Day.
