Match report   1st up for the New year for the Foxes was Knaresborough Celtic and the question was would the Foxes play like a bunch of turkeys after the Christmas break or would they be supercharged after their long rest??? Time would only tell!

On with the game and the Foxes dominated from the off, with Beth W proving to be a menace down the left, Sophie M and Abby holding the fort in the centre of the park and Emily making probing runs down the right. For the 1st 20 minutes we were camped in the Knares half, with Emily and Amy coming close on 2 or 3 occasions but just failing to find the back of the net. It was all one way traffic! However after that period of pressure we began to drop off too much and soon nearly paid the price after the Knares striker failed to convert from a great cross with our goal gaping! The warning signs were there and a few minutes later we were made to pay from a well taken corner which was headed into the back of our net with Knaresborough somehow going in at the break a goal to the good.

On with the 2nd half and this time Beth R was making some very good strong runs down the left and Georgie was making good progress up the pitch with some nice interchanges with Emily. Chances followed as once again we dominated possession with Emily, Amy and Abby all coming close, however we just couldn’t seem to put them away. Then with 15 minutes left Abby picked up the bit and pieces in the box from an Emily corner and blasted the ball into the roof of the net to the relief of the fans and put the Foxes deservedly level. The Foxes began to pile on more pressure, with Amy and Beth W coming close after a great run through the centre of the Knares defence just to shoot narrowly wide. Then with minutes left on the clock Amy latched onto a through ball to do the rest and slot the ball home and put the Foxes 2-l up. In the last minute there was a little bit of anxious defending from a corner, but the Foxes were not to be denied after the final whistle went confirming a well-earned 2-1 victory.

In all I feel this was the best we’d played this season, with Georgie, Soph G and Josie all doing well at the back with the midfield providing much better protection in front of them and always keeping the pressure on Knaresborough. We dropped off for the final 10 minutes of the 1st half and paid the penalty so lesson learnt girls! But to be fair you held you nerve and put in a great performance in the 2nd half to deservedly win the game.

Girl of game: Abby – Was fantastic in the centre of midfield and got the vital goal that drew us back level pegging. Well done Abz!
