Match report   After the late postponement of the Knaresborough game, the Foxes were entertaining an unbeaten Scotton team looking to build on their previous impressive performance against Knaresborough.

On with the game and it was the Foxes who were quickly into their stride dominating possession in the middle of the park and asking the questions of the Scotton backline. It was a case of a series of “nearly” moments for the Foxes where the ball just didn’t seem to run for us at the crucial moments or Scotton just managing to stretch a leg out to put in the crucial last minute challenge, when s usually Amy was about to pull the trigger. The Foxes were made to pay for this when after a clearance to the edge of their area a Scotton girl hit the ball on the volley rather too sweetly for my liking into the bottom corner of the Foxes net to put them 1 up going into half time.

On with the 2nd half and again we dominated possession with Amy coming very close to scoring on numerous occasions, coming closest when she had an effort tipped up onto the underside of the crossbar. Emily and Abz also came close with a couple of efforts but it just seemed the ball was not going to find its way into the back of the net. Up the other end, Sophie G, Georgie, Josie and Laura had all defended really well, limiting Scotton to very few chances. Unfortunately for the Foxes it counted for nothing when we failed to clear our lines from a corner and were punished to put Scotton 2 to the good. After that it was always going to be an uphill struggle and the game finished 2-0 to Scotton.

All and all always disappointing to lose a game that I felt we played well for large chunks of the game enjoying a lot of possession, largely due to Abz and Sophie M in the middle of the park constantly harrying the Scotton girls on the ball. That said Scotton were much better than us at spreading the ball wide, whereas we rarely had that option and tried to often to play through a very congested centre of the park. Something you won’t be surprised we’ll be working on in the next few training sessions!

Girl of game: Sophie M. Worked her socks off winning back possession and keep the forward momentum with the Foxes. Well done Soph!
