Match report   The scene was set. It was the clash of the titans. The Fulford Foxes against top of the table Stamford Bridge who had steamrollered past all opposition to date and were sitting proudly at the top of the league.

The whistle went and for a change the Foxes were straight into their stride enjoying good possession of the ball with lots of neat interplay between Amy, Dani, Abby in midfield linking up with Emily up front. All the pressure was down the Bridge end and the Foxes came within a whisker of scoring from a beautifully flight Emily corner, with Abby a hair’s breadth from making the telling touch to put the Foxes in front. Never mind Abby, next time I’m sure your hair will have grown and you’ll make no mistake next time.

6 or 7 minutes in and the Bridge played a hopeful ball over the top of the Foxes defence who were caught slightly flat footed. Laura Hales ran on to it but despite pressure from Sophie M and a fantastic stop from Sofia the ball unfortunately ricocheted back off Laura from the save and into the back of the net. The Foxes undeservedly, 1-0 down.

From the kick off the Foxes were again in control and I’ll put my hands up, whilst debriefing my subs, Amy scored a cracker to make it one a piece. I completely missed that magic moment! On then came a super subs Beth W and Laura for Dani and Abby who had an excellent 10 minutes. With renewed vigour there was wave after wave of Foxes attacks, however we just couldn’t find the right key to unpick that stubborn Bridge defence. The halftime whistle went, with the scoreline finely balanced at one each. The best was yet to come!

On with the second half, with Abby replacing Beth who’d taken a nasty knock being very brave putting her body in where it hurt. Normal service had resumed and again the Foxes lay siege to the Bridge goal. Surely it was only a matter of time and the dam had to burst as it was under so much pressure. 10 minutes in and after some neat trickery from Emily, she found herself 1 on 1 and I was waiting for the inevitable, but oh no the home fans buried their heads in their hands in disbelief, Emily knocked it inches wide. I said, don’t worry if Em gets another of those she’ll burry it! Call me Mr sooth sayer, but 1 minute later Emily powered her way into the box and made no mistake this time slotting home neatly in the bottom corner

In between Em missing and scoring the cavalry had arrived. Abby and Laura had softened the Bridge up and on came Dani and Beth with strict instructions to finish the job off. We could now cut the tension with the knife, the Foxes 2-1 up with 10 minutes to go, could we hold on? No it wasn’t a question of holding on, we wanted more and the girls duly obliged. In a well worked corner routine straight from the training pitch, which I will take no credit for, Emily fed Amy who crashed the ball home to make it 3-1. A few minutes later and the piece de la resistance and the icing on the cake to boot. Emily again found herself 1 on 1 with the keeper, this time deciding to round the keeper, before passing the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-1. There were more chances to come for Dani, Em and Amy, but 4-1 it was. A magnificent display by the girls both going foward causing a very good team all sorts of problems and very sound in defence thanks to the meaness of Sophie m and Charlie.

The Bridge coach was also very gracious in defeat saying “your girls were up for it, played us off the park and battered us from start to finish. The 4-1 scoreline flattered us and please write that in your report!” So I have. Well done girls, your best display of the season by far, but lets keep level headed and your feet on the ground. One game doesn't make a season, we all want more of the same!

Girl of the game Dani. Ran her heart out, was a constant outlet down the right and put her foot in when she had to. Well done Dani!
