| Match report | The first round of York FA cup presented us with a tough game against Brayton who beat Tadcaster 4-0 in the preliminary round. Andy Hanson sat out today allowing Ellis to take his place on the right. The defence started well and were tested but found Ethan, Sim and Dougie very strong. Jake was called into action on several occasions and kept their efforts out. Fulford has two chances early on but Damian was unlucky with both efforts. Brayton scored after 20 minutes from some unlucky defending/goalkeeping and we went in 1-0 at half time. We came out after half time determined to push hard for the equaliser and were unlucky with Damian and Ollie going close. Brayton were a strong team who passed well and hit us again with a second that Jake could do nothing about. We pushed and pushed for a goal to bring us in the game and were unlucky when Damian took the ball around the g/k and hit the post, however the angle was tight. We kept on pushing but could not force a goal back. The final whistle went and we had lost 2-0. Both teams played well and a 2-0 score line didn’t tell the story; Fulford just couldn’t score. The Brayton g/k made a fantastic save spreading wide to deflect an Ollie shot which squirmed wide of the post. The game ended 2-0. The Lions were good today but came up against a strong Brayton side who will surely be promoted to division 1 this season. The ref and Brayton’s manager singled out Doug and Alfie for potential PotM but slightly felt Doug nudged it. Next week is Haxby which should allow us to regain confidence providing we battle like we did today. Score 0-2 (HT 0-1) Scorers – N/A PotM – Doug |
