| Match report | Today’s game was against Strensall who have improved considerably since last season. The Lions started very strongly and practised for the first time ‘passing and moving’ to great effect. We were dominant in midfield and won every loose ball commandeered very well by Alfie in the centre. George pushed a sublime ball through to Ollie who out muscled the defence to push the ball into the corner against the onrushing goalkeeper. We were 1-0 up and were playing some breath taking football. Damian pressurised the Strensall gk and defence at every opportunity and was very unlucky chasing a back pass and hitting the post after outwitting the goalkeeper. Ollie made it 2-0 with a brilliant strike having been set up by some crisp passing by Alfie, Louis and George. Fulford were in command and the football was a pleasure to watch (and coach). The defence were resolute, nothing went past Ethan, Doug and Simeon who were on top of their game. Jake was called into action several times and did everything right in perhaps one of his quietest game. At half time we were 2-0 and Andy told the boys they were on top and the football was superb and not to drop the standard. We were unlucky not to go 3-0 up ten minutes in to the second half when Ollie headed a fine Ethan corner on to the bar. We were by far the stronger team against a decent Strensall side. With 15 minutes to go, the ‘move’ of the match happened Louis and George passed with style, George then played the ball to Alfie and ran into the box, Alfie exquisitely back heeled the ball through the Strensall defence to George who deftly lifted it over the Strensall gk. What a goal! The Strensall coaches even purred the goal stating to Andy ‘You can’t teach or stop that!’. 3-0 was the final score but the result does not match the boys performance. This performance ranks with the best since Andy began coaching the team. All parents were watching some fine football which you only see from the Brazil of the 70’s! The Lions were very strong today, outclassing a good Strensall team. Every player played their best football today and it showed. Defence, midfield and Strikers were on the ball today. The PotM was chosen by Andy, Alfie dominated in the middle of the park and ‘that’ pass to set up the third goal just gave him the vote ahead of Ollie who was superb. It must be mentioned this was a fantastic team performance. Playing the simple ‘pass and move’ game was evident in how to win ‘easily’. The lions have now set a mantle of which to build on and keep playing this way. Great performance today, well done all. |
