Match report | 3rd tough game in a row for the Foxes. Away to Pickering on a rather “slanty” pitch! The question was, could the Foxes keep their impressive run of form going? On with the game. The game opened up evenly, with most of the play confined to a midfield tussle, but as the game went on the Foxes were beginning to exert their authority, with Beth W making some fine runs down the left, with Amy making inroads down the right and Dani moping up behind in her defensive midfield role.. It was nearly 1st blood to the Foxes when Amy broke through the Pickering back line, and under intensive pressure from the Pick defender who had a few pieces of Amy’s shirt in her hand, Amy shot narrowly wide. I think the ref must have played advantage to the Foxes. In another incisive Foxes move, Amy linked up well with Emily to break down the right hand side of the penalty area, to shot across the face of goal and narrowly wide. Up the other end, there was a fine defensive display from Sophie G and Beth R, putting in a number of very good tackles. Pickering also came close and the Foxes supporters had their hearts in their mouths when the ball came crashing off the Foxes post after a scramble in the penalty area. Then on around 13 minutes, Emily picked up on some indecision in the Pick defence, pick pocketing the Pick defender to steam in on goal and put the Foxes one up. Unluckily for the Foxes this was cancelled out a few minutes later when the ref awarded a penalty against Sophie G for hand ball. For me it was accidental, absolutely nothing Sophie could do about it, however the ref saw it differently and Pick scored from the spot kick, even though Sofia got a good hand to it. The half finished 1-1. On with the 2nd half, which Pickering had much the better of. The Foxes were struggling at times to get out of their own half and Sofia in goal pulled off a succession of “world class” saves! Well done Sofia. There was also a fine rearguard performance from the Foxes defence, with Sophie M, Sophie G and Charlie all given a very good workout! Unfortunately for the Foxes, they couldn’t hold out forever and Pick scored from the right hand side of the penalty area low into the bottom corner of Sofia’s goal. Nothing Sofia could do to save the Foxes this time! Game over and Pick ran out 2-1 victors even though we won the battle of the supporters 3-0. Well done girls great to hear you in such great voice! So this was another great learning experience for the Foxes. We’ll pick up on that next time and I’m sure we’ll be stronger for it! Keep your heads up girls, there’s still everything to play for, with a cup to go for and still a great chance of finishing 2nd in the league if we win our remaining games as I’m certain you will. Girl of the game Dani. Put in a fine midfield display, breaking up the Pick attacks and orchestrating a number of telling Foxes moves. Well done Dani! |
