Match report   Fortunately today we had a ‘full friendly’ of 8 a-side, allowing all our Foxes to display their skills on the pitch. And the spectators weren’t disappointed, as despite the set back of the defeat in the league game; the girl’s went out there ready to settle the score!

In the first half there were some excellent runs from Sofia, Laura and Beth R, all of whom unfortunately had their attempts on goal either go wide, or saved by the keeper. We saw some good displays of accurate passing and support, especially from Masie and Elle and no one was going to get past Josie and Sandy in defence and put a ball in the net for Pickering.

Half time saw the score line 0-0….and I’m sure even the Pickering crowd would agree we had definitely had more possession of the ball.

A few team changes took place at half time including Georgie coming out of goal to play up front. Elle took her place and unfortunately had, the by now, beautiful sun shinning right in her eyes. (Where are those clouds when we need them?) This wasn’t therefore to our advantage, when Pickering early in the second half put some relentless pressure on our defence and managed to score. But we were not to be beaten that easily and Abby, Laura and Georgie kept pushing forward and putting pressure on the Pickering defence and goalie!

Then came what must be at least the goal of the month, if not the season, as Laura after a good run down the middle, from 10 yards out lobbed the ball right over the goalie’s head into the back of the net…WHAT A GOAL….and it was 1-1!!

But it was not over yet, next came our ‘champagne moment’….as Pickering took a throw in, Charlie who had been doing a sterling job in defence, suddenly forgot she was playing ‘footie’ and went to catch the ball. Definitely no quibbling with the ref this time….free kick ‘fair and square’ to Pickering, that was defended well and it looked like this match could easily end in a draw. However, unfortunately those Pickering attackers penetrated our defence and despite a good attempt from Elle, they managed to put another one away before the final whistle, giving a final score of 2-1 to Pickering.
