| Match report | For the second game against a mixed but stronger woodthorpe team Fulford continued where they left off. After a couple of early scares snuffed out by some superb robust tackles from Adam and the pace of Jack, it was Fulford who took the lead with a brilliant move from back to front. Sam guided a first time cushioned volley to Liam that took out the entire Woodthorpe midfield. Liam took it on up the middle. The manager’s screams on the touch line to pass it wide to Luke were only drowned out by the call from Luke himself. The ball duly arrived and the goal machine, Luke slotted it into the onion bag – 1-0! Woodthorpe were still a threat however and having broken through the defense they snuck an equaliser after a deflected pass left their striker one on one with the wrong-footed Joe. 1-1 This was probably the only clear chance Woodthorpe mustered. The Fulford Midfield was being marshalled by Ethan with his usual energy and further chances followed for Luke, Sam and Liam. After yet another well worked attack Ethan found himself under a falling ball on the edge of the area. For a split second we all saw his name over the back pages as he took off, swivelled in the air and shaped for a spectacular overhead kick…. Luke just managed to stop it going out for a throw!! For the rest of the game, Fulford more than held their own and looked solid as Jonathan produced a mature display late on in defence. One spectacular scramble in the Fulford goal mouth ended with a flash of orange springing onto the loose ball and landing into the one muddy pool left on the drying outgang . Joe emerged like the creature from the black lagoon triumphant with the ball and keen to shake muddy hands with one and all as the final whistle approached. It was a great final home performance and just what the doctor ordered after a few heavy defeats this season. Man of the match was Ethan the midfield dynamo. |
