Match report   2nd game: Emily (GK), Sandy (Sweeper), Elle (R Wing Back), Josie (L Wing Back), Laura (Centre Midfield), Beth (Striker), Sofia (Striker)

OK, I think I’ll keep this report a little shorter and sweeter, I’ve got some shopping to do. Our new girl Elle made a very promising debut showing that she was absolutely fearless in the tackle and was not afraid to put her head in where it hurts, so very well done Elle! Josie and Sandy were also very tidy in defence and in particular Josie was not giving the Bridge girls any change down the left hand side and was showing that she has a very good head for defensive positioning. Once again Laura was the driving force in the centre of midfield and Beth and Sofia were asking the Bridge defence more than 1 or 2 questions and were both unlucky not to have made it onto the score sheet. Again the Bridge tested Emily a few times from distance and Emily pulled off some great saves. Late in the 1st half, the Bridge had a rather speculative shot from a tight angle, Emily was severely unsighted and the ball squeezed in on the near post. 1-0 to the Bridge and end of the 1st half.

2nd half and we played 8-a-side. Laura, Beth and Sofia went off for well earned rests, and Amy and Dani came on in attack and Sophie and Charlie came on in midfield. A few minutes had passed in the 1st half when Sophie managed to find Dani well positioned in the Bridge box, Dani pulled the trigger and blasted the ball as I recall inches wide. Moments later, the Bridge had a swift counter attack and their striker found herself on her own in the Foxes box and coolly slotted the ball past Emily. Game set and match you might have thought. But no, this Foxes team has spirit about them and are made of very stern stuff. There was wave after wave of foxes attack with the midfield dynamic duo of Sophie and Charlie forcing the Bridge on the back foot and providing the ammunition for Amy and Dani to put the spoilers on the Bridge. You could hear the agitation in the Bridges coach’s voice as is was trying to stir his girls, but I think his nervousness was feeding through to the Bridge and the inevitable happened, 2 minutes left on the clock, Amy sprinted down the right wing and sent a exocet missile past the Bridge goalie. Then again within second’s of the restart, Amy again found herself in space down the right and once again unleashed a pile driver which no goalie could ever stop. The Bridge coach didn’t seem to think so and his goalie unfortunately for her came under a barrage of abuse. Game over, well done Foxes again a well earned 2-2 draw. Another minute and I’m sure you would have forced the winner!

Girl of the game: Josie, snuffed out every Bridge attack down the left hand side. Well done Josie.
