| Match report | Fulford U9s earned a much deserved 1-1 draw with the U10s in what was both teams first ever 11-a-side match. The game was played on the "small pitch" at Fulford School. The first 30 mins saw mixed U9/U10s teams made up of two equally balanced sides. Both sides played neat passing football, with James and Tom H very quickly getting into their stride and Peter and Olly putting in some excellent tackles. Will had 2 good chances to open the scoring as he raced away from defenders, but when faced with a 1 on 1 with the keeper, the shots went agonising just past the post. James opened the scoring with a well taken shot from about 15 yards that gave the goalkeeper no chance. Joe I soon equalised as he ran in on goal on the left hand side of the area and cooly finished with a shot in to the top right hand corner. Ross then denied Will another goalscoring opportunity with a superb sliding tackle in the penalty box. The second half was U9s v U10s. The match was finely balanced with both sides playing some good passing football. The U9s took the lead thanks to an excellent move. Tom G played the ball through to Ross down the left. Ross cut inside and beat two defenders. His shot was well saved by the keeper, but Will followed up the rebound and smashed the ball into the corner of the net. The U10s came back strongly and forced the U9s back into their own half for much of the remainder of the game. There was some great last ditch defending and block tackles from the U9 defence, particularly Harry, who richly deserved the man-of the-match award. The U10s got a deserved equaliser when one of their midfielders pounced on a goal kick and surged through to score. The game finished 1-1 and the U9s had a lot to be proud of in their first ever 11 a side game. |
