Match report   A sunny afternoon’s football for a change saw Fulford continue their recent improvement in form, this time in the 1st round of the League Cup away against Aviva, the current Div. 2 league leaders. The first quarter was fairly even, however, with Woody and Hazza in particular battling hard, Fulford started to dominate play. Woody then came off with a minor injury to be replaced by Craig, just back from his own injury spell. Elliot had a solid strike, comfortably stopped by the Aviva keeper, before his brilliant run on the right found nobody to tap in his cross-goal pass. Fulford kept up the pressure though and after 15 mins. a great cross from Patch on the right found Rob unmarked at the back post for a simple nod in. Ten minutes later a long through ball from the back four again found Rob, only for his shot to drift just wide of the right post. With the Fulford flood gates expected to open, Aviva did well to battle back to pressurise Fulford and finish off the end of the half arguably the stronger team. However, strong defensive work from Joey, Steven, Tom, and particularly Luca, kept any attacks at bay, with Jack B as reliable in goal as ever mopping up anything that dared to come into his area. HALF-TIME: Aviva 0 Fulford 1.

After a tough half-time team talk, and with the wind and slope in their favour, Fulford started the second half strongly. With only three minutes in, after good work from Patch and Elliot, the ball broke on the edge of the box to Toby who hammered a screamer into the Aviva net. Two minutes later further Fulford pressure resulted in a Fulford free-kick. Patch’s high kick was dropped by the Aviva keeper and in the resultant melee, Elliot nipped the ball in for Fulford’s third. With Aviva tiring and limited to a free-kick sliced well-wide of the goal, Fulford were now working hard with Hazza clearing a dangerous ball half-way down the fairway of the 1st hole of Fulford Golf Course. Joey and Craig were also combining well on the left as Fulford started to pass well too. Good work in the right corner then found Patch to deservedly clip in Fulford’s fourth, before being applauded off and replaced by the tireless Woody. Five minutes from time saw Rob battling well to run clear with the ball and stroke in a well-placed fifth, and his hat-trick was completed at the death with a fine individual goal. FINAL SCORE: Aviva 0 Fulford 6.

Overall, glimpses of improvement from Fulford and a good win against a sporting and spirited team. Spectators' man of the match: Luca.
