| Match report | Today's results don't tell the story of the gutsy perfomance the Lions put in against a Rawcliffe team that has never lost a match. Yes we were slow to start and we conceded some silly goals in each game, but for a 20 minute period (second half of first game and first half of second game) we made Rawcliffe look like very average opposition and scored 1 goal to their nil. Not quite a match victory, but a superb result from a great team effort. It would have been unfair to give the Player of the Match award today so all the Lions share today's award for a very encouraging performance. Jacob, Damian and George worked hard in midfield and attack and Sol, Emma, Oscar and Andrew worked hard in more defensive roles. Luke played in goal for all of game one and made some superb saves. Emma produced some great saves during her stint in goal and was unlucky to be in goal when the team, and particularly the defence was getting cold and tired. Congratulations to Damian again for a very well taken free kick that got us our goal in game 1. We still have many areas to improve - particularly passing and moving, but today's display was very encouraging. Our marking from throws and corners was significantly better than I have seen before and having worked on tactics last Friday, I was delighted to see George and Andrew working a rehearsed corner that resulted in a great shot which the Rawcliffe keeper only just saved. Very well done to you all. |
