| Match report | FA Cup Game at last, we hadnt played a game since the 21- November and had really only trained twice since then too, so all of us although feeling a little rusty were all keen to get back into it. We had gone to this game as not too concerned about it we would use it to get back to a match fitness. Cop are a decent side and so we wanted to make sure we didnt get a showing up at least and give them a good performance, it turned out to be anything but a showing up it was in fact a fantastic performance from ourselves and we were very very unlucky to come out with a loss on this one. All the lads played well, it was a great game to watch and Cop played a good game of football too. We had our chances but we just couldnt put it in the net. In the back we had of course Billy in the sticks, an absolutley outstanidng performance save after save, from point blank range some of them, acrobatic and spectacular i couldnt fault his spirit today. Scott came out firing on all cilinders at right back he was back to his old self, he looked like he meant it today was going through the ball with real gusto, he took an early knock and we had to bring him off, we treid to get him back on a couple of times but it was clear the knock had hurt him. Ben and Guy were outstanding in centre Guy shackled their main man and came out on top 80% of the time against him. Ben was a major player today and his large boots make a big difference to us, he scored a penalty and nealry cleaned thier keeper in the process he hit it that hard. Cameron was strong today making his surgeing runs forward, the back looked as good as i have seem them all season we put will into right back for Scott and he didnt let the side down and filled in where Scott left off, standing firm at the back. Midfield was Frankie at the start on the right he was cool and calm and able to fend off attacks from that position Oli D came on for Frankie, and we noticed something we had not picked up on in training (dont know why ) but how fast he is, he went chasing after a cop player on attack from about 3 meters behind him and caught him easily he showed this a couple of times in the game, this is something we are going to have to build on that speed with him. Centre was Aaron and Freddie with David just tucked in behind them to mop up, David was outstanding as usual today and cop were menaced by him everytime he got the ball he surged forward, Arron and Freddie worked hard and both had some great chances today they just wouldnt go in. Oli C on the left was more like his old self he pulled his groin and had to come off at half time so Frankie slotted in to his left position, although not a left footed player he stood in well Oli C came back on for the final 15 mins and looked OK again. Up front we had Ross on his own he did his job well today and was very unlucky not to nick this game for us, he was constantly rushing the goal and the keeper, their keeper is a good goalie and kept his cool. It was unfortunate that they knicked with the last kick of the ball, the ref had done a good job really he had made some wrong calls on both sides, he didnt give them a penno, but he gave them a croner shortly after which was a wrong call and they bagged their goal. On a whole we were happy with the performance its the way it goes, we dont give the refs a hard time they do their bes and i was a bit taken aback by COPs line who were very vocal toward him, im not sure why they won it when they perhaps shouldnt. Anyway Man of the match was hard to call but after lots of thought it went to Billy Orpe for his outstanding saves. |
