Match report | Fulford started 2011 with a defeat against an impressive Haxby side. The game wasn't quite the classic of the game at Haxby earlier in the season, but there was still lots of excellent football on show. Fulford dominated the first half, but Haxby always looked dangerous on the break, but some fine tackling from Tom B ensured they didn't create any clearcut chances. Fulford's best move came just on half-time when Harrison found Joe I on the right and he spotted an excellent run from Frankie in the inside left channel, but the Haxby keeper made a good save to keep out Frankie's shot. Fulford looked like they'd take the lead early in the second half when Joe C raced onto a through ball from Tom G. Joe reached it just before the Haxby keeper, but he'd covered his angles welll and made the block to turn it out for a corner. With 5 minutes remaining Fulford players were flooding forward looking for a winning goal, when Haxby broke down the right. Fulford managed to get players back behind the ball, but the Haxby midfielder picked out his teammate who smashed it into the bottom right hand corner. Fulford pushed forward in search of an equaliser and had Harrison to thank for some superb tackling to deny further Haxby counter-attacks. However in the final minute Haxby added a second goal with an absolute screamer from 20 yards which found the roof of the net. |
