Match report   So next up for the Foxes were the once mighty Stamford Bridge. Could this be the 1st season that the Foxes could do the double over their old adversary? Well, I think we all know the answer to that one!
On with the game, which was played against a backdrop of a constant din from the Stamford Bridge coach, barking unrelentingly his instructions throughout the game. It seemed to be working for the 1st 5 minutes or so of the game as Stamford Bridge enjoyed most of the possession and managed to breach the Foxes back line on a couple of occasions with Sofia once again having to pull off a fine save in a 1v1 and Laura putting in a fine last ditch tackle after the SB forward had broken through.
After weathering this early storm, The Foxes began to get their game together and it wasn’t long until we notched up our 1st goal withAmy playing a fine through ball for Emily to beat the offside trap to tuck the ball under the goalie’s despairing dice into the far corner. Great goal and the Foxes 1 up.
Georgie was also playing some fine football down the Foxes left, 1st linking up well with Emily for her to shoot narrowly wide and then playing Emily through to score, but unfortunately for the Foxes she was caught millimetres offside. That then was the pattern for the rest of the half and in fact the game as it seemed that Stamford Bridge were very well versed in playing the offside trap and we just couldn’t get to grips with it and it certainly seemed to affect the usual fluidity of our play.
Half time and the Foxes a goal to the good. On with the 2nd half and this started in the same way as the beginning of the 1st half with SB exerting all of the pressure and almost scoring after the SB striker had just Sofia to beat. This time for once Sofia was beaten and just as the SB contingent were celebrating a goal, their joy turned to anguish and groans of disbelief as Abby appeared like a steam train from nowhere to clear the ball off the line. Well done Abby, that’s as good as scoring a goal!
That was a massive boost for the Foxes and SB appeared to drop their heads and lose concentration. Moments later after a hopeful punt up field, there was indecision in the SB defence, where they all looked at each other to deal with the ball but no one did. Fortunately for the Foxes Dani was on hand to pounce on their indecision to take the gift and slot cooly into the corner and put the Foxes 2 up.
The match was pretty much settled now, with Amy polishing things off with a fine individual goal. In the dying embers of the game Sofia pulled off another fine save from an SB free-kick and the Foxes could have made the result more convincing with Sophie M, Amy and Dani all again coming close.
Another victory for the Foxes and another clean sheet that makes it 6 in a row! A record that the whole team can be very proud of. It probably wasn’t our best display of the season, but it’s a mark of a good team that we can still grind out those results even when we’re not at our fluid best. One big difference between the 2 teams that was evry noticeable was the spirit within the team. You could tell that we were very much together and supporting each other at all times, whilst the SB team seemed to be at odds with each other for most of the game. That gave us an extra girl on the park itself. So well done once again girls, let’s keep the team spirit as well!
Girl of the Game: Josie – Put in another faultless display at the back and helped maintain another clean sheet for the relentless Foxes. Well done Josie!
