Match report   It was the final home game of the season and the Foxes welcomed Knaresborough Celtic in another must win game to keep the super Foxes dream of finishing 2nd place alive.

The Foxes lined up with Abby and Josie at right and left back, Sophie G at centre back, Sandy coming on at left back, the dazzling midfield diamond of Sophie M at the indestructible hard core, Dani, Laura, Beth W and Georgie providing the sparkle down the wings and Amy providing the cutting edge at the tip and Emily playing as the lone striker.

On with the game and Knares were quickly into their stride enjoying the most of early possession with the back 3 of Josie, Sophie G and Abby having to work really hard to keep them out. Knares came close on a few occasions: breaking clear the once, however Sofia has been almost impossible to beat this season and she was there once more to make a fine block from close range and then pull off some great saves from some long range Knares efforts. After the 1st 10 minutes, the Foxes began to play the ball around a lot better with Emily and Amy both coming close. On around 15 minutes Amy played Emily through on goal to strike sweetly beyond the despairing dive of the Knares keeper to put the Foxes a goal up. After that possession was fairly even and the Foxes went in at the break a goal to the good.

On with the 2nd half and the Foxes didn’t need a half time team talk as the Knares girls had already fired them up with backchat that they were the better team. This was all the motivation we needed and the Foxes came out and began to dominate from the off. Georgie made some great probing runs down the left and in one run she burst clear to send a shot narrowly wide. Beth on the other wing was also causing the Knares defence all sorts of headaches and was opening up lots of space for Emily and Amy to exploit. In one fine move, Emily was played in down the right to put in a great cross for Amy to latch onto and crash against the post. In another move Dani sprang clear down the right and was unlucky not to get her cross into the danger area. The pressure had to tell and on 12 minutes Emily picked up the ball on the left side of the penalty area and danced through a couple of tackles to make it to the touchline where she cut back and then sent a howitzer into the corner of the net from a tight angle. Great individual goal from Emily to put the Foxes 2 up. After that the Foxes went into cruise control and never really let Knares in with a sniff and saw the game out to record another victory and another clean sheet. Great credit again goes to the midfield screen, the back 4 and Sofia, that’s 8 clean sheets in the last 9 games. A fantastic record!

So the super flying Foxes signed off their home campaign with another win. 2 more victories and it will be our best season ever. You can do it girls!

Girl of game: Emily – Scored 2 great goals to seal another victory for the Foxes.
