Match report | First pre-season friendly for the Seniors away to the much fancied Premiership new boys Wiggington Grasshoppers. In heavy rain a youthful Fulford FC first team set off on Harro's magic bus on the journey to the promised land, and what a journey it promises to be. It has to be said there was some anxiety in the camp at the lack of experience in the team and the need to play a number of players out of position but when kick off came the team were ready for the challenge. The start was nearly as disastrous as it possibly could have been with Grasshoppers wasting a good chance to go 1-0 up in the first ten seconds but after that the 'Ford team grew in stature and started to peg Grasshoppers back. There were chances at both ends but 'Ford took the lead with a great goal only to be pegged back to 1-1 with a cheeky chip to beat Callum. The second half was a close fought affair with 'Ford unlucky not to take the lead when Ashley Hope followed up on a keeper error to narrowly shoot wide. So the game finished 1-1 and left Harro suitably impressed with his young team. Its a big step to go from youth to adult football but several lads did and they did a superb job, not least Ashley Hope who at 16 was celebrating ten years at the club with a first team debut. Congratulations on the performance to all the squad. MoM D Warner Onward and upward! |
