| Match report | On paper this was the toughest test of the season so far for the upwardly-mobile Under 15s. They had strolled through their league games to date but how would they fare against Division 1 opponents, Haxby, in the Cup? The first half was finely balanced with chances both ends, but the game began to turn as Ricardo worked his tactical wonders, rotating the hard-working midfield to the maximum. Mickey Pilcher's (obviously intended) floated free kick from 25 yards and an outstanding tip of a Haxby shot onto the bar by keeper Will Paver meant Fulford went in 1-0 to the better at half time. After the break, Fulford turned up the pressure with Scully, Emlyn Davies, Josh Quarmby and Dan Ford giving no quarter in defence, and midfielders Carl Brewer and Joe Tomsett beginning to dominate possession. But it was the skill and awareness of Harry Bedford which began to create the space which Alex Forster's pace was able to exploit, adding 3 more to his season's burgeoning tally. As goals mounted Fulford began to play some wonderful football, an example being Gianni Gabbiadini looking more like a right-winger than a fullback by putting the ball to the right of the Haxby left-back and rounding him on the left. But the champagne moment was surely Tom Russell's wonderfully judged cross for Alex's 2nd goal. Emlyn D's sure footedness in defence in the face of Haxby's first-half pressure delivers him PotM. A cup-run beckons! |
