| Match report | The first defeat of the season, against Strensall in the Cup, left Fulford U15s downbeat, but there was much to be encouraged by after 80 minutes. Aside from 15 minutes in the first half, Fulford were more than a match for the first division team. They took the lead with another poacher's goal from Alex F and, having been pegged back by a free-kick, went 2-1 up with a well-taken strike from Tom Russell. Then things went badly wrong, with the midfield and defence all at sea as Strensall took a 6-2 lead into the break. The Gabbiadini 'hairdryer' was well employed at half time and things changed markedly in the second half. Despite conceding another goal, Fulford showed more belief and worked much harder. Emlyn, Scully, Josh Q, Gianni and both Josh and Dan Ford provided a much more solid defence, and Will made good saves when needed. In midfield Carl, Joe, Mikey and Harry B worked more effectively in the second period, regaining and retaining possession as a unit. The boys got their just deserts with an excellent second half goal from the outstanding Josh Moran who deserves his player of the match for running himself to a standstill up front. A lot would have been learnt from this game in terms of the need for 80 minutes of concentration and discipline, and this will stand Fulford in good stead for the rest of the league campaign as they challenge for the Division 2 championship. Ricardo's position on the coaching side has been enhanced by the second half display. Sadly this is more than can be said for his administrative staff who managed to mess-up the kick-off time - more hair-dryers may be necessary! |
