| Match report | The Tigers were well beaten in both games today. Nearly all of the play was in our half of the field, and our attacks were few and far between. Nevertheless we gave Heworth two good games, working hard from start to finish. Quite rightly, our players thought the team played reasonably well and got better as the games wore on. Maxi, Archie and Oscar haven’t played for the Tigers for a long time, and Nathan only had a couple of games for us before Christmas. Now that we’ve played our first matches together I expect the team to continue to improve. Congratulations and thanks go to the four goal-keepers, Jake, Maxi, Thomas and Archie; they all had a lot to do today, and all made some great stops and catches. All four kept working hard even when things weren’t going well, and the Player of the Day award goes to Jake who was exceptional in the first half of the first game. The Tigers defenders had a busy time throughout, and there was a lot of hard work and a lot of effective work done by all our players in trying to break up the Heworth attacks. The biggest problems came because we weren’t so good at keeping possession of the ball when we got it. Very few successful passes were made by Tigers players today, so our attacks rarely got very far up the field. However, things did improve as time went on and if we train and practise hard we will soon be creating a lot more threats on the opposition goal. Well done today. We have three more matches in the next three weeks, so play and practise as much as you possibly can. All of you must expect to be asked to play in all positions on the field – including in goal. Be ready and be brave! Goalies will not have to do as many substitute appearances as players who don’t go in goal. Tim Regan |
