Match report   The Tigers had a couple of difficult games this windy morning.
We played a really good Easingwold team, whose players showed a mixture of skill and determination that made them very difficult to dispossess - and they took up great positions and moved around the field in a way that made it look like they had more players than us at times.
By comparison the Tigers lost the ball easily, didn’t always show the same strength and determination, and didn’t make good use of the space on the pitch. That’s why the game seemed easy for Easingwold and difficult for us - we spent a lot of time chasing around after their players in our half of the field, and very little time in possession of the ball. We lost the first game 6 – 0 and the second 4 – 0, which is a fair reflection of the games.
After the two matches the Tigers squad was uncharacteristically subdued. The down-cast mood was understandable; you put in loads of effort, but were well beaten. But there are plenty of reasons you should feel good about today’s performances: First, you all tried hard right to the end – which is brilliant. Second, there were things that clearly improved compared with the last match we played (at Huntington) – for example the goal-kicks, and the accuracy and power of your shooting when you got a chance. Every time you play you learn and get better – even if it doesn’t feel like that sometimes.
The way the games were played today meant that most of the hard work was done by the Tigers defence. The player who stood out here was Nathan, and he gets my Player of the Day award for a typically non-stop performance – Congratulations Nathan.
Looking forward:
In football small differences can have a big impact. I could see that the individual Easingwold players were no different from you guys, but they did play with more confidence and with more organisation. This comes through practising and playing the game. To catch up with teams like theirs you’ll all need to concentrate hard at training on Friday, AND practise and play football more often if you can.
Before our next match (against Rawcliffe next Sunday) try to think of one or two things you’d really like to improve in your play. Think about what you can do, ask your family and friends to practise with you, PRACTISE hard, and then go out on the pitch next Sunday ready to put your hard work to good effect. Good luck!
Have a good week, and I’ll see you all again on Friday I hope.
