| Match report | This game was originally scheduled to be played at Easingwold, but the pitch was very hard due to the overnight frost and it was doubtful as to whether it would have been playable by 10:30. Fortunately, Easingwold's other pitch at Stillington was available and even though it was only 3 miles away, remarkably frost-free. Fulford started the better of the two teams and were ahead after 5 minutes when James played a through ball for Isaac to run on to. The keeper came off his line, but Isaac took his chance to score in the bottom corner. Fulford had a similar chance to add to their lead after 10 minutes, when Will T sent Ross through on goal. The keeper was again quickly off his line and made a fine save to deny Ross. Easingwold came more into the game after about 15 minutes and forced a succession of corners, from which Tom H made some good saves to preserve the Fulford lead. In the second half, Will T nearly created a goal for himself, as turned past the first defender and powered past the second into the box, but the Easingwold keeper made another good save from the Will's shot. After about 12 minutes into the second half, Easingwold got an equaliser. A right-wing corner was picked up by an Easingwold striker towards the near post. He turned and drilled in a dangerous cross towards the far post where it was turned in from close range. Fulford quickly restored their lead, following a good move down the right which saw Isaac cross the ball to Frankie. Frankie shot from just inside the box. The keeper made a good save but could not hold it and Will T was on hand to tap the ball into the net. Easingwold were not finished and pressed for an equaliser. With 10 minutes left, they built up a good move down the left and when the ball was played inside it was hit from 25 yards by an Easingwold midfielder. The ball hit the inside of the post and the Fulford defence were first to the rebound to clear the danger. Fulford scored the goal that effectively sealed the tie with about 7 minutes remaining. Isaac took a right wing corner that fell to Joe I just inside the box. He controlled it with his left foot and shot with his right as the Easingwold defence pushed out. The shot went through a crowd of players and into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Fulford finished the game strongly and added a fourth late-on when a run down the right from Isaac saw him cross to Will T. His shot was well saved by the keeper, but it fell perfectly to Frankie who passed the ball into the empty net. |
