Match report   Fulford entertained Thorpe Utd Blues in the semi-final of the York FA Cup. The game kicked off in heavy rain that persisted throughout the match. Fulford enjoyed the best of the early stages and the first chance fell to Will T, from a right-wing cross from James, but Will’s header was well saved by the Thorpe goalkeeper.

As the first-half progressed the game looked a very even contest. Fulford’s next good chance came when Joe C went on a good run down the left, and put in a good left foot cross that was controlled by Will. He checked inside on to his right foot and drilled a hard low shot that hit the foot of the left hand post.

Early in the second half, Fulford had the ball in the net. Joe C slipped the ball through to Will and from six yards out, he tucked it away in the bottom left hand corner, but the assistant referee had spotted that Will was in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.

Minutes later, the deadlock was broken and Thorpe took the lead. A Thorpe midfielder picked up the ball just inside the Fulford half, on the left and chipped the ball through for the Thorpe striker to run on to. He just about got to the ball first ahead of both goalkeeper and the last defender and slotted the ball into the ball into the empty net.

Thorpe made it two-nil about 10 minutes later when their left midfielder burst through into the box and unleashed a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

Fulford finished the game strongly, inspired by some great work in midfield from Olly and Tom G.

Tom G started one good move that saw him run past three opponents in midfield before playing the ball out to Isaac. His left wing cross was met with a fine header from Olly, but the keeper made a good save.

With about 4 minutes to go, the ball was chipped into the box by Joe I and Will T got his head to the ball ahead of the on-rushing goalkeeper, but the ball dropped agonisingly onto the roof of the net and Fulford knew it was not to be their day.

Congratulations to all at Thorpe United Blues on a much-deserved win, and all at Fulford wish them the best of luck in the Final.
