Match report   It was a bright Sunny day and the Foxes were up against the Scarborough ladies. The Foxes got themselves off to a whirlwind start, firstly taking advantage from some slack Scarborough defending from a long Abz through which eluded a couple of Scarborough defenders for Emily 1st to tap through the goalie’s legs and then run the ball into an unguarded net to put the Foxes a goal up. Minutes later Sophie G picked up a loose ball in our own half and pulled off a great lofted pass to send Amy clear to cooly pass the ball into the back of the net and the Foxes were 2 up in 3 minutes. Then after only 5 minutes of the game Soph M found Emily down the right for her to dance around a couple of defenders and have the presence of mind to cross the ball across the face of the gaol for Amy to slot home her 2nd of the game and the Foxes were already 3 up!

After that we created some more chances, 1st with Soph M finding Emily in space who’d made a great diagonal run off the wing only to be thwarted by the near post. Abz also hit the post after hitting a great shot across the keeper moments later. Amy then came very close again, but for the keeper to pull off a fine save in a 1v1 and Emily and Amy also very nearly linked up after racing clear only for Amy just to be caught offside. Then in the closing seconds of the game, Amy completed her 2nd hatrick of the season against the Scarborough ladies after dispossessing a Scarborough defender and driving into the penalty area to unleash a great shot into the corner of the net and put the Foxes 4 up at the break.

It was always going to be more difficult for the Foxes in the 2nd half, going uphill and against a strong wind. The damage had been done in the 1st half and it looked as if we’d taken our feet off the gas for much of this half although we always looked in control. We did however concede a rather sloppily from a throw in but never looked like conceding anymore. Up the other end we created some more chances with Amy once again the main protagonist with Beth W and Emily supporting well from the wings. Game over 4-1 to the Foxes.
One of the main differences between the teams on the day were the defensive units. Where ours was compact and did not afford and space for the very talented Scarborough ladies strikeforce, the Scarborough ladies were the opposite giving us lots of space to work through which we duly exploited. So well done to Georgie, Soph , Soph A, Josie and Laura!

GOG: Sophie G – Marshalled the defence really well in the 1st half and showed great vision to set up Amy for our 2nd goal. Well done Sophie!

I think we’re beginning to look like a really strong outfit now and I’m sure we’ll take this good form into the Ripon cup game next week and progress to the semis. Fingers crossed this will be our year!
