Match report   Fulford’s opponents in the preliminary round of the League Cup were Haxby Cougars, from Division 3, who Fulford hadn’t played since the York RI Under 9s Tournament. The pitch at Fulford School was surprisingly still saturated with water after the heavy rain of Thursday night, but it didn’t slow up Fulford as they took a first minute lead following a neat finish by Will.

Will added a second soon after, and completed an 8 minute hat-trick when a right wing corner was met by Harrison with a powerful strike. The Haxby keeper did well to keep it out, but it dropped to Will who tapped in.

Harrison got a goal himself when the ball fell to him in the box and he slotted it in to the bottom right hand corner.

Tom G was at his best Andrei Kanchelskis-type form down the right wing, and he had a key role in the 5th goal which was possibly the goal of the game. Harrison played a ball through to Tom and he raced down the right and looked up and played a great ball to the far post to Will who finished first time from just inside the box.

Will got his 5th and Fulford’s 6th when Joe picked him out at the far post with a lovely pass and Will finished well once again.

Harrison scored an excellent 7th goal following a good Fulford move, after a number of passes the ball was played in to Joe, who with back to goal, layed the ball back to Harrison who from just outside the box, produced a lovely finish high in to the roof of the net.

Harrison returned the favour for Joe minutes later when he cut the ball back from the dead ball line and Joe was there at the near post to turn the ball past the keeper.

In the second half, the 9th goal arrived when Isaac crossed from the right and Reza was there at the back post to volley in from close range.

Frankie got the 10th when he finished a good move from about 8 yards out.

Isaac’s pace and ability to beat the offside trap saw him claim a second half hat-trick.

Overall, it was an excellent display by Fulford, to claim a place in the last 16 of the League Cup.
