Match report | Prior to kick off, a 6-1 win at Panthers is the kind of result that both the Fulford players and management would have been dreaming of, especially when they woke up to find a cold and frosty November morning. The importance of a quick start has been highlighted to the Fulford players in recent weeks, thus it was pleasing to see Will Turner round the keeper and convert in the opening minutes. Initially Fulford didn’t take advantage of such a good start and in response to the early breakthrough, Hamilton created a couple of half chances. Eventually the Fulford midfield started to impose themselves on the game and spend more time in the attacking half of the field. Impressive debutant Dan Richards always looked a threat on the ball and played a big part in the 2nd (Will Turner) and 3rd (Joe Iggulden) goals which came before the break. Panthers started the 2nd half with real purpose and were rewarded with a well worked goal. For a short time it looked like they may reduce the deficit further but Fulford remained strong in defence. With Tom Grantham’s organisation and Ross Garvey-Cockers composure, good scoring chances were kept to a minimum, anything that did get through was immediately pounced on by the ever reliable Fulford goalkeeper, Tom Heath. With Hamilton pressing, Fulford always looked dangerous on the break and as the game grew older Joe Chadwick started to exploit the gaps well, often taking Fulford possession deep into the Panthers half. Indeed, it was a clever run and cross from Joe Chadwick that led to the decisive 4th goal, a diving header from Will Turner which completed another well taken hat-trick for the striker. Joe Chadwick was suitably repaid for his good work when he bagged the 5th minutes later, with a well struck shot from around 12 yards out. Panthers continued to show plenty of belief in themselves and kept battling well but Fulford remained strong and maintained possession in the key areas of the pitch. In doing so there was no better exponent of this than Dan Richards who worked tirelessly all morning. Dan was finally rewarded with a goal late on (Fulfords 6th), by demonstrating fine composure in a crowded and muddy goalmouth. It was a great start for the Fulford newcomer and he rounded off a perfect morning by picking up the man of the match award. When looking back at the 1-6 scoreline, Panthers will rightly feel a little aggrieved by the 5 goals difference. Throughout the game they kept their heads up and combined well on a number of occasions with some good examples of passing and movement. That said it was Fulford’s morning, they will take a lot of positives from this result into the cold months ahead, starting next week, again against Hamilton Panthers. |
