| Match report | With the change to Sunday afternoon games next season, our final ever Sunday morning match, saw us welcome our old rivals, Heworth, to Fulford. Down the year’s there’s been many cracking games between the two sides, so it been quite a surprise to see them at the foot of the table this year, and all at Fulford wish them a quick return from Division 2 to Division 1 next season. Fulford started the game very well with some excellent quick short passing. It was from one such move that saw them open the scoring. Tom B won the ball on the half-way line and a series of quick passes between Dan, James and Harrison saw the ball played through to Joe I near the dead ball line. The Heworth keeper was expecting a cross, but Joe whipped in a hard shot which beat him at the near post and went in off the far post, for Fulford’s 100th goal of the season. The second goal followed shortly after when a quick long throw from Isaac found Joe I who ran through and went around the keeper, but his shot was cleared off the line by a Heworth defender, but it fell straight into the path of Dan who fired the ball high into the roof of the net. Fulford’s third goal was soon added thanks to a lovely flowing move down the centre of the pitch which saw the ball played in to James, who checked back on to his right foot and hit his shot back across goal in to the left hand corner for a well taken finish. The fourth goal came when a left wing cross by Will dropped to Harrison, who showed great awareness to steer the ball on the volley with the outside of his right foot into the far right corner of the net. A fifth goal was added in the 20th minute when another left wing cross from Will found Isaac unmarked at the back post to score from close range. Heworth pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time when a right wing cross was partially cleared. The ball fell to a Heworth defender, 25 yards out, who lashed in a tremendous first-time strike, that was about an inch off the ground from the moment it left his foot to when it hit the net. Heworth got a second goal back in the second half when their forward ran through and went around Tom H. The shot hit the far post but hit Tom G and went in. One of the best moments of the game came mid-way through the half when a good Fulford move saw James played in down the right wing. He beat a defender and sent in a great cross which was met by a flying header from Joe I, who was unlucky to see the ball hit the bar and go over. Fulford completed the scoring with about five minutes left when Dan picked out Joe I at the far post and he scored from close range. |
