| Match report | Fulford's final match of the season took them down the A19 to Barlby to face a team who've enjoyed great success in the Selby League. Barlby were fastest out of the blocks and wave after wave of attacks came towards the Fulford goal, but these were denied by some fantastic defending from Fraser and good saves from Joe. Fulford gained a bit of a foothold in the match as the game went on with Declan and Archie showing some good skill down the wings and Paul and Jonathan enjoying a very competitive battle in the centre of midfield with their Barlby counterparts. Luca made some good runs with the ball up front, but too often he had little support, so Fulford couldn't turn their possession into clearcut chances. Just as it looked like Fulford might hang on until half-time and re-group, Barlby scored a goal in the 18th minute which their first half dominance deserved, when their striker hit a powerful shot from well outside the box that rocketed into the net. Barlby added a second straight after the break and went on to add to further goals. The Fulford lads never let their heads drop and battled on through to the end. Credit must go to an excellent performance from a top-class Barlby team who never let the intensity of their football drop, right through from the 1st to the 40th minute. Man of the Match was Fraser, who typified the Fulford spirit, as he put in some cracking tackles and also read the game superbly and used the ball very well, when in possession. Many thanks to Mark and all at Barlby for organising this game, which was certainly the highest calibre game of football that Fulford U8s have been involved in this season. |
