Match report   What a day to produce the best performance of the season. Fulford seem to be peaking at the business end of the season, having secured a convincing 3-0 win against a York RI team who had defeated us earlier in the qualifying tournament.

York RI started on the front foot, winning an early corner, following a slightly unsure start from Fulford. However, once we cleared our lines, York RI struggled to get through a tough tackling Fulford midfield. Jonathon was a steely presence in the centre and Luke F was a constant threat on the right, while Luke H added his usual finesse and energy on the left.

Opportunities soon started to appear as Liam combined well with the midfield releasing his team mates with dangerous early passes that had York RI chasing shadows at times.

Back in defense Jack’s pace and Sam L’s uncanny positional sense smothered most York RI attacks. Joe was well protected in goal but when called upon managed to divert a powerful shot onto the angle of post and bar.

This solid team performance meant the match was virtually over by half time as Jonathon’s crisp finish from a great team move, was soon followed by another typically clinical finish from Liam. Just before half time Luke F made it 3 with an emphatic close range effort.

What was just as impressive was how Fulford managed to shut up shop for the second half. Harle came on to give width on the left, with some useful touches, Clemmie went up front and was unlucky not to score, and Ethan produced a characteristic ‘Makalele’ role breaking up any moves of promise that RI tried to set up. Sam, who’d been brilliant in what is not his normal position at right back, swapped with Luke F and both performed stirlingly
.
York RI were largely limited to long range efforts (always a good sign). One particular dipping and bending effort looked to be heading into the top corner until Joe back pedalled to tip it onto the bar. With that went the last hopes of RI to get back into it and on went Fulford into the semis!
