Match report | Our first home match of the season saw the visit of Stamford Bridge to the Outgang. With a few last minute pitch markings ( thanks to Lee and Andy-although I think they may have had a few beers on Friday night with some of the lines haha!!) and with nearly a full squad to choose Sent from my iPhone Phoebe started her first league game for Fulford, not in goal as expected but in midfield!! With a change in formation and rotation of players, we started the first half very slow and found it difficult to adapt to the wet surface, also playing against a better than expected and different Stamford bridge team that we had played against in a friendly last season. We kept battling with good defending from Brooke, Ellie and Phoebe ensured we didn't conceded a goal, but we still needed to pass the ball better and settle the game down. A goal was needed and came from who else but Alyah. Following good passing from midfield, Alyah scored, giving the goalkeeper no chance with a great finish. This settled us and our normal game was back. A fantastic run from Chloe and cross to Lucy nearly produced a goal, but we didn't have to wait long to increase our lead. Chloe took a corner .... Did she go for goal?..was it a cross? Either way it found its way in to the goal via one of their players. Chloe then chased down their goalkeeper who kicked the ball against her and it went in ....3-0!! That Goal brought about a little bit of history for the team...our 100th goal!!! (In all competitions) not bad in just over a year!! (Chloe scored our first ever goal and now 100th .. Well done Chloe!!) Confidence was now up, Lucy went on a great run which nearly produced another goal. Ellie and Brooke continued to tackle and block the Stamford bridge attacks. The Second half brought a change in players, but the commitment and determination didn't change. Chances were few and far between in the second half (our midfield and defence did really well) but we did produce the best passing move of the game. The ball got played up to Alyah on the half way line (who had her back to goal) who passed it back to Annie, who looked up, and passed to Lucy who slotted a great ball through the Stamford bridge defence for Alyah (who had run around the defenders) to run on to..only for the speed of the ball on the wet grass to just run through to their goalkeeper.....good football girls!! We conceded a rather sloppy goal to make the end score 3-1, but another win so well done girls!! |
