Match report   It was a beautifully crisp winter’s morning, with the pitch in superb condition for slick passing samba style football. It was the 2 Goliaths of the league The Fulford Foxes vs Poppleton Tigers in a match up, with the Foxes enjoying home advantage. The question on everyone’s lips was could the Tigers at last be tamed and put firmly back in their cages? Time would only tell!

So on with the game, and the Tigers enjoyed the Lion share of possession constantly probing the Foxes defence for that opening. On 5 minutes, the Tigers showed their claws and broke free of the Foxes defence. Sofia was quick off her line to dive at the feet of the Pop striker and deny first blood to the Tigers. From then on, although the Tigers had most of the ball, the Foxes defence was standing firm with Sophie G, Charlie and Dani clipping the Tigers claws everytime they encroached into the Foxes half of the pitch. As the half wore on, the Foxes were beginning to show their cunning and were stringing some very good moves of their own together. Opportunities were being created and the Tigers were starting to feel the crack of the whip from the incisive Foxes moves. In one sweeping move from back to front, Emily sneaked in stealth like, shooting from close range only for the Pop keeper to pull of a stunning save. The half ended evenly and the Foxes were buoyed by keeping a clean sheet and creating some good chances of their own.

On with the 2nd half and the Foxes were quicker into their stride and after a neat exchange of passes between Emily and Amy, Amy found herself free down the right bearing in on goal, only to shoot narrowly wide. The belief was there in the Foxes and on 8 minutes, Beth W found Emily in space 20 yards out and she launched her guided exocet missile which rocketed into the back of the Tigers net. The crowd went wild, and the Foxes were a goal to the good.

Now the Tigers haven’t gone 3 seasons unbeaten for no reason. They were now beginning to bear their teeth and were putting the Foxes under increasing pressure, however they were up against an unmoveable defensive wall at the back and the Tigers just couldn’t break through, even though they were peppering the Foxes goal from distance, it was all food and drink to Sofia in goal. Then on 15 minutes, after the Foxes midfield pack hunted the ball down in midfield, Amy found Emily in space in front of goal to crack it home into the bottom left corner, 2-0 to the Foxes. From then on, there could be only one winner and the Foxes sealed victory from a fine inswinging Emily corner, which went in off the keeper. Tough on the keeper, but I think it was the whip on the ball that did her. We’ll give that goal to Emily to complete her hatrick. Game over and the Tigers had for once been tamed by the Foxes bringing to an end their phenomenal run of unbeaten games in the league.
