| Match report | With only 7 players available and Alex battling through with an injured knee Fulford started on the back foot and were soon a goal down to a bright and energetic R.I. side. Midway through the half Alex after manfully struggling through the opening minutes sensibly asked to be withdrawn from the game and with no substitutes the Ebors turned to the Vikings for help with Daniel quickly volunteering to help out. A hasty rearrangement of the formation saw William drop back into defence Harry take on Alex’s striking role and Daniel drop into central midfield. R.I. took full advantage of the enforced rearrangements scoring a second as Fulford struggled to contain the opposition. 2-0 then became 3-0 as R.I. threatened to run away with the game, but straight from the resultant kick off Fulford were back in the game as Harry fed Harrison who ran forward before unleashing a screamer that 3 goal keepers would have struggled to keep out. The goal seemed to wake Fulford and they quickly scored a second as Miles’ marauding run opened up the R.I defence allowing Harry’s deft flick to bamboozle the R.I. keeper. R.I. then hit back just before the break to make it 4-2. The second half saw Daniel move alongside Annabel in defence and William move to central midfield. It was Harrison who once again got Fulford back in the game scoring another long range effort to make it 4-3, William then popped up to tie the game at 4 each. R.I. were never out of the game though and it took some watchful defending from Annabel and Daniel and a couple of outstanding saves from Euan to prevent Fulford from going behind once more. With the defence now bolstered Fulford went for the win Harrison supplying William who eagerly made it 4-5, an unlikely win was then assured as Harrison completed his hat trick to make the final score 4-6 to Fulford. Player of the match: Daniel Pickup – Unexpectedly called into the breach to help out the Ebors and was outstanding in both midfield and defence. |
