Match report | Next up for the Foxes in their final pre-season friendly before the real business starts were the Scotton Scorchers. It was another game of 3 15 minute halves, with the Foxes coming with hunger in their hearts, wanting to put to bed the disappointment of losing to the Tigers in the previous week’s friendly. So they were underway and the Scorchers began to dominate the early possession and it was clear from the off that this new team to our league will prove very tough opposition for the Foxes in our quest to bring glory to the gates of Fulford in the coming season. It was noticeable that the Scorchers had 1 very powerful and skilful player up front who was proving to be very much a menace to the Foxes defence and on around ten minutes she powered through to slot the ball home to put Scotton a goal up. After the goal went in the Foxes began to pick up their game with Emily putting in a couple of fine long range efforts to test the Scotton keeper and Sophie Mole almost finding her way through after Amy played a neat to through ball. Into the 2nd half and this time it was the Foxes turn to enjoy the lion share of possession. Laura and Maisie were both beginning to ask more questions of the Scotton defence down the wings and this was opening up more space for Emily and Amy to weave their magic through the middle of the park. Iit wasn’t long then until the Foxes were back onto level terms after Emily played and exquisite through ball to Amy to finish off in style. A couple of minutes later and it was Deja-vu with Emily again playing Amy through to make it 3-1 to the Foxes. Then would you believe it a couple of minutes later and Amy was played through again by Emily, but this time the goalie was smartly off her line to force Amy wide and the chance was gone. Up the other end the Scotton strike force was getting severely blunted by the mean Foxes defence of Elle, Sandy the birthday girl and Sophie G who was having another one of her superb games at the back. On then with the 3rd half and I think the Foxes were beginning to tire and just couldn’t cope with the power and skill of the Scotton striker who powered through on 4 further occasions to seal a 5-2 overall victory for the Scorchers. Girl of the game Amy. She always made herself available for the ball, was tigerish in the tackle and scored a couple of great goals. Well played Amy! All in all it was another very good learning exercise for the Foxes. When we play Scotton next, I think we know who to stop and I’m sure it will be a very different outcome. |
