Match report | Fulford produced a battling display to frustrate an impressive Huntington for long periods. Huntington , who have had a 100% record so far this season, started the game on the front foot and Fulfords new look back four had to dig deep to ensure they didn't find themselves behind early on. Will Callow, making his Fulford debut, and Gus Vassili both produced plenty of blocks and tackles and goalkeeper Chris Morris produced a series of fantastic saves to really frustrate the Huntington forwards. Despite Huntington's early pressure, Fulford always looked dangerous on the break with pace from Nick Turnbull and Nick Tate as well as a 'Samba like preformance' from Josh BN which caused the Huntington defence plenty of problems. It was a brilliant flowing move from Fulford that produced the best chance of the game so far as Nick Tate found himself in a superb position and unleashed a wicked strike, only to see the keeper pull off a wonder save to deny him the opening goal. Fulford kept the pressure on and were later awarded a penalty after Liam Hancy was brought down in the area. Jack Heath stepped up to take it and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way but saw his shot go agonisingly wide of the left post. Despite finishing the first half strongly Fulford were perhaps guilty of starting the second half a little slowly and it was early in the second half that a Huntington striker stole in at the near post to give them the lead much to the disappointment of the Fulford defenders who had defended fantastically. Despite this setback fulford continued to work hard and could have found themselves level when Liam Hancy's header looped over the keeper only to be denied by the referee who deemed it offside. Fulford again found themselves the wrong side of the linesman's flag moments later when a player who appeared to of confessed to being offside came alive again to set up huntington's second goal which the referee allowed. As the game wore on both teams became tired and the pace of the game slowed down but some solid defending and goalkeeping from Fulford prevented Huntington from adding to their tally and the game finished 2-0. Although they lost Fulford will really take heart from a battling display that produced some really good performances and they can look to carry their spirit into next weeks game. |
