Match report | Already into a mid-season break can you believe after 2 games, so in the interests of keeping the girls busy, Stamford Bridge were lined up for a friendly. On with the 1st half and the Bridge were quickly into their stride and within the 1st 5 minutes were ahead clearly after the ball took a wicked deflection off a mole hill to wrong foot Georgie in goal. After that had woken up the Foxes is was mostly one way traffic towards the Bridge goal, but with Josie, Beth and Sophie G very alert at the back to snuff out any Bridge attacks. Both Abby and Dani were providing the Foxes with good width and Sophie M was getting through lots of work in the centre of the park, breaking up play and setting up Foxes attacks. We created a number of good chances for Amy and Emily and on another day could have been 4 or 5 up at the break, with Sophie M coming closest with a long range effort clipping the outside of the post. Into the 2nd half and this was a far more even affair. Notably for the Foxes going forward Georgie made some great breaks down the right, and Abby was getting through a tremendous amount of work down the left and was providing some fantastic service to the feet of Emily and Amy, however we just could find that breakthrough. Laura also made one terrific run where she broke through 3 or 4 tackles, but just couldn’t find that finishing touch. In also our best move Dani found space down the right, a put in a great cross and again those Mole hills must have made the ball bobble for Amy just to miss-time her shot. But great movement from Amy to get into position and unlucky not to get onto the scoresheet. At the other end the pressure was mounting on the Foxes goal, with Elle and Sandy putting in some great rearguard action with some fine last ditch tackles, putting their bodies in where it hurt. Sophie M also pulled off a couple of fine saves, but alas in a good move down the Bridge right an unstoppable shot was placed past Sophie in the bottom left corner giving Stamford Bridge a 2-0 victory on the day. Girl of the Game: Abby – Worked really hard both defensively and offensively putting in some ferocious tackles and providing some fantastic service for both Amy and Emily. Well done Abby! |
