| Match report | This morning was our chance to see if we should have remained in the first division and to gauge our level. York Cubs are a good first div side and a cup tie against a team who play good football like us and whom we have rarely beaten was a great test. The first half was an absolute joy to watch I havn't seen us play any better than that ever. We put York Cubs to the sword and the only reason we didn't score was due to three fantastic saves by thier keeper. Cubs didn't expect or have any answer to our first half display. With our right hand side of Jamie and Ben H in outstanding form we often got in behind thier defence, all that was missing from this brilliant display was a goal. Cubs never produced anything in the first half because they hardly ever had the ball. The second half was a lot more even and with cubs getting a foothold in the game they started to become dangerous, as all good sides will once you allow them to have time with the ball. The game was end to end now with both teams having a real go, a great cup tie. With about 10 min remaining cubs scored from a good move down their left, I still felt we could get one back but they had the upper hand and only minutes later got a second from a headed cross, no way back we thought. We sent on the subs and hoped for the best and straight away Matty was put through and slotted a trademark goal 2-1 with about 5 min remaining. Our tails were up and straight from the kick off we regained the ball, Harry went on one of his lung bursting runs down thier right, centered, and all on his own in the box was Fergus (our sub), to poke home the equaliser. The crowd went wild. We were expecting extra time now as there was no time left in the game but to our usual luck Cubs launched a long ball for thier winger to chase, he hit a first time shot, which Dan managed to get a foot too but the ball looped over Joe in goal, we were deflated. Cubs got another just before the whistle but this didn't reflect the game, which was a lot tighter than the score suggests. An excellent game which in the first half especially, proved we are a match for anybody on our day. We just have to prove it by being more consistant. |
