| Match report | There was a big turnout this morning - which is great but creates a few headaches for the coaches, particularly when players turn up late! We played two games of 8-a-side, using substitutions to try to give everyone as much playing time as possible. Three of our newest squad members - Jake, Maxi and Simeon - played in only their second competitive fixture today. This is a difficult thing to do, especially against players who have been playing club football for a year and a half, and great credit is due to the three of them for learning very quickly; their strong and disciplined defensive work in the second game was a big factor in our win. Well done you three. In the first game there was plenty of effort and enthusiasm, but the Heworth players were better organised and made much better use of the space. Quite often our players found themselves getting in each other's way or all in a bunch with the opposition running un-challenged towards our goal. In the end Heworth won 5-0. But the Tigers re-grouped for the second game: we learned from our mistakes and talked in the interval about keeping our positions on the field. The result was a throughly improved performance, with good use of space, neat passing, strong runs and three good goals from Jacob, Ryan and Henry. The defenders stayed alert and gave protection to Harvey in the Tigers goal, and the game finished with a 3-2 win for us. Ben put in excellent performances in both games, often being at the centre of the action in both attack and defence. He took the Player of the Day trophy. Well done to everyone - especially in the way you listened and learned from the lessons of the first game. Thanks to Ian for refereeing and helping out with coaching. |
