Match report   The stage was set for another dramatic game for the fantastic Foxes who were this time entertaining Ripon in the semi-final of the cup.
On with the game, and much of the 1st half was dominated by a Ripon team who were unrecognisable from the team that the Foxes had demolished 5-0, just a month or so ago. Although Ripon dominated possession, the 1st half was one of few chances. Ripon’s best chance came after around 15 minutes, when they were awarded an indirect free kick inside the Foxes box after a back pass was picked up by Sofia. All the Foxes shirts were back on the goaline, Nick blew the whistle and as the Ripon player played the pass for the shot there was the charge of the lightbrigade off the Foxes line and that was enough to put Ripon striker off to blast her shot wide of the goal. Late on in the half, the Foxes created their 1st clear cut chance, with Dani playing Amy through in goal to fire a fierce shot, but unfortunately straight at the keeper. Straight after that, Ripon were up the other end and through on goal, however Sofia was smartly of her goaline and did enough to put the Ripon striker off to screw her shot wide. The half ended goaless and the tension was rising!
On with the 2nd half and Ripon once again started the stronger team and created 3 quick chances, each of which were repelled by the magnificent Sofia in goal with 3 superb saves. That was a wake up call for the Foxes who slowly but surely we began to grab the game by the scruff of the neck! Once again Amy was at the heart of the Foxes action, having been played in twice, however the Ripon goalie must have been inspired by Sofia’s keeping display up the other end to pull off a couple of fine saves herself. Although the Foxes continued to dominate the possession, we just couldn’t manufacture that vital break through and the half ended 0-0.
We could now cut the tension with a knife and it would have to be a very sharp knife! It was all too much for the Nick the ref who had to be replaced by Andy, Helen’s brother after Nick had a prior engagement at a Leeds match to keep, taking with him once of our stars of the game, Abby!
The Foxes were now into unchartered territory, extra time of 5 minutes each way and then the possibility of penalties to once and for all settle affairs. The 1st half of extra time was dominated by the Foxes, but still we couldn’t find a way through, coming agonisingly close through Amy again and Emily. The half was over in a flash and it was still goaless. The Foxes in the final half would have to dig deeper than the moles had dug on our other pitch to secure victory in the final half of extra time and avoid the agony of game being settled by penalties. That’s exactly what they did and with 2 minutes left on the clock, Emily made a great run down the left to cut into the penalty area to put in an inch perfect cross for Amy to latch onto and this time bury it at last in the back of the Ripon net. There were 2 nerve jangling minutes then for the Foxes to hang on and hang on we did. The Foxes had done it, the crowd were cheering, the girls were hugging and screaming with joy, the Foxes have another cup final to look forward to against the Tigers. This time I am certain we will come back victorious to finally adorn our empty trophy cabinet with some silverware.

Girl of the game: Sofia – Pulled off a succession of fine saves to keep Ripon at bay and keep the Foxes cup dream alive and kicking!
