Match report   Fulford started out against Easingwold, in what was their 5th meeting of the season. Like the previous 4 games, this was a close game. Fulford enjoyed the space that a 6 a side competition brought and played some sparkling passing football. The only goal of the game came when Joe I joined in with an attack and drove the ball into the far bottom corner from the inside left position.

The next game was versus Heworth. Fulford again played some good football and took the lead when James raced clear. The keeper saved the first shot, but James slotted the ball in from a tight angle. Heworth equalised when a long ball into the box wasn't cleared and the Heworth striker pounced to equalise.

Next up was Hamilton Panthers A. Will scored what was his 40th goal of the season and James got the second goal.

Next up was the game everyone had come to see - Poppleton! There was some good skill on display, but with only 6 mins each way, it didn't really have time to develop into an epic. Fulford controlled the football well and looked good in possession. The best chance of the first half came when it looked like a 2 on 1 was developing, but a timely interception from the Poppleton Centre Half denied Fulford. Poppleton looked very strong breaking forward and some timely tackles were required to keep the scores level. With three minutes to go Poppleton's left midfielder produced a moment of brilliance which deserved to win the match. He picked up the ball out on the left wing and beat the last two Fulford defenders and then produced a cool finish at the near post. Fulford had a good chance to equalise when a good ball from James picked out Will arriving in the inside left position. He would have had a free shot on goal, but lost his footing at the key moment and the chance was gone.

The final group game was against Brayton. They took the lead with a very clever short free-kick routine. Fulford came back in the second half and 2 goals from Will meant they went through to the semi-final as group runners up.

In the semi-final Fulford faced Hamilton Panthers B' who had pulled off the shock of the tournament by beating last years winners Scalby to top Group B. Fulford should have took a first half lead when a thunderous 20 yard free kick from James, crashed down against the underside of the bar. The goalkeeper was about to grab it, but Will was on hand to turn the ball in, before the keeper could touch it. Amazingly the referee disallowed the goal as he had perceived that Will had kicked the ball from the keepers hands. It did however demonstrate the very high standard of refereeing that we have experienced this season, as in 40+ games this was the only decision which we could feel genuinely aggrieved about. Panthers then went one up when they hit Fulford on the break after a corner was cleared. Fulford pushed in search of an equaliser, but it was Panthers who added a second late on to claim a much deserved victory.

It was a disappointing end to what was a very enjoyable and successful season, but in truth this was probably a tournament too far, coming after two others in previous weeks, at the end of a long season. Well done to all players who have all represented the A' Team this season with such passion and skill.
