| Match report | Fulford's first away match of the season was a first visit to Woodthorpe since the opening day of the Under 8s season. Both sides started brightly and Fulford created some half-chances in the opening 15 minutes. However they were made to pay for not taking advantage of the these when Woodthorpe took the lead. An excellent right-wing cross fell to the Woodthorpe left midfielder, who took one touch and then fired it into the bottom left hand corner, for a superb goal. Fulford hit back straight away when a corner from James was swept in with a neat first time shot from Will T. In the second half Fulford took the lead when Reza disposessed a Woodthorpe defender and played in Will T. The keeper came out and saved the first shot, but the ball fell back to Will who was able to tap the ball into an empty net. Will T nearly scored a much-deserved hat-trick when he again ran through on goal, but this time the keeper bravely came out quickly to narrow the angle, and while Will was first to the ball, the shot went wide. The lack of a third goal nearly cost Fulford as in the last 10 minutes Woodthorpe began to throw players forward in search of an equaliser. Fulford had Tom H to thank for some great decision making between the posts as he crucially came out to claim a dangerous cross and was quickly off his line and out of the penalty box to clear a through ball when the Woodthorpe Striker looked like he might have reached it. Fulford held on to claim the points which was a good result on a day when they never reached top form. Will T deserved his Man of the Match award, but there were good performances from Ross in midfield and from Reza and Ollie on their 11 a side league debuts. |
