Match report   The Foxes were yet to open their account after 2 league games against Brompton and were completely outplayed in a rather humbling 9-1 defeat the previous week. Up next were Stamford Bridge, a team who had seemingly returned with renewed vigour after beating the Foxes 4-3 in a pre-season fixture. Could the Foxes put their nightmare start behind them a get their season back on track? Certainly the signs were good leading up to the game, with the Foxes showing great determination and work ethic in the preceding 2 training sessions.
On with the game and it was clear that the Foxes were showing much more bite to their game snapping in those tackles , getting bodies behind the ball when we lost possession and showing good movement in possession with options abound! After a period of dominating possession, during which Amy was unlucky to have one chalked off for just sneaking offside, Beth Weeks took possession from just about the half way line and ran at the Bridge defence and dance past 3 desperate tackles to find herself in the box and calmly slide the ball across the keeper from the right into the bottom corner of the net.
After that the Foxes continued to dominate possession with Amy coming close on a few occasions and Laura herself also going on a few barnstorming runs down the left hand flank. After 20 minutes Laura had to come off after taking a nasty knock and Sophie M was also given a well-earned rest after buzzing around in the centre of midfield making life extremely difficult for the Bridge. On came Steph and Georgie and straight away Steph made a difference knocking back a Bridge clearance for Amy to run clear and finish coolly to put the Foxes 2 up. Minutes later the Foxes rather went to sleep at the back and allowed a Bridge striker too much time in the box to pick her spot and bring them back into the game.
This spurred the Foxes back into action with Amy drawing a foul up on the edge of the Bridge penalty area to give the Foxes a freekick in a dangerous area. Emily was not going to be denied this opportunity and stepped up to curl the ball beautifully over the wall and into the top corner to put the Foxes 3-1 up going into the break.
On with the 2nd half and the Foxes were rather slow out of the boxes with the Bridge getting into a 1v1 situation vs Sofia. Sofia however did enough to put off the Bridge attacker who shot wide. Soon after that Amy again picked up possession just outside the Bridge area and danced around a couple of challenges to put the Foxes 4-1 ahead and seemingly in the clear. More chances then followed for Amy, Emily, Sophie M, Laura and Georgie! That’s all of course very pleasing that you’re all getting in there and making so many great runs from midfield which are so difficult for the Bridge defence to pick up. The game though wasn’t quite done and dusted as the Bridge sneaked one back with 10 minutes left on the clock. However soon after Amy latched onto a loose Bridge goal kick to put the Foxes 5-2 to the good and settle the game once and for all.
So this was a great comeback for the Foxes. An assured performance from the back 5 of Sophie A, Sophie G, Sandy, Josie and Abby with the Foxes midfield looking much meaner and leaner in denying the Bridge possession always providing plenty of options when in possession.

Girl of the game: Beth Weeks – Got the ball rolling with a tremendous goal and didn’t stop running throughout. Well done Beth!
